...our yard has opened itself up to us in the past month or so. Last year we were somewhat indifferent to our backyard. We had this giant picnic table which ate up much of the covered porch area. I (mum) dismantled that this year and we've put the chairs I made back there. We set up this old wash stand that we picked up on the side of the road and filled it with some of the plants that I got for my birthday. (I had a green birthday and only asked for plants this year.) Then we put a cheap table cloth on a table that mimz picked up on the side of the road so we have something to put food and stuff on. Oh, and we have a place to put all the kids toys in and our random yard stuff in because I found one of those Rubbermaid bins you put all of your yard stuff in on the side of the road. PLUS, you just throw the BBQ cover on it and it doubles as seating for two!
It's our rubbish porch (sounds nicer than garbage don't you think?).... except, we got the new BBQ (rewind to the picture to Judy's meat again, ugh) which adds a modern kick to the atmosphere.
This weekend I want to dig a fire pit so we have that to sit around too. We get so cold out there, so I thought that a fire pit would be nice to hang out in the yard longer. Our friends have one and then they have their planter boxes around it. That's pretty cool and would keep the kids from falling into it when they're running in the yard, but I wanted the garden boxes in the front yard. So, the neighbor has one with big has chunks of wood around which blocks it and they're also good to sit on. I bet we could get those from Lorraine's (Mama's) parent's house.... that would be better. I also want to get the torches that are metal... that or the electric lights. I think I really love the yard (well, not the fence, but all in due time I guess). I love having backyard projects, it's just finding the resources to try and recycle the things you want to make!
We have a lot of settling into our yard to do still. The garden now has the biggest dandelion EVER right in the front of it.... so I need to get to weeding. The weather has just been hell bent to rain on the days when we've planned to weed/mow the yard/etc. Or that's what we've been telling ourselves anyway.
